Liguria

The perfect place where to live

Why living in Liguria?

Studying, conducting research, working, or doing remote work in Liguria offers a unique experience that enriches families, employees, and businesses. Here are ten good reasons to relocate your business and family to Liguria:

1. QUALITY OF LIFE

Liguria is a region that prioritises quality of life. It’s a beautiful place to live, with a consistently mild climate. Whether you’re studying, working, enjoying leisure time, or moving your business, you can rely on an ever-expanding network of citizen-friendly services. Suitable for all seasons, including the seasons of life.

2. UNIQUE HOLIDAYS

Sea, beaches, and coves. Mountains, hills, nature parks, and breathtaking views. Cities of art and charming villages. Liguria offers diverse experiences to satisfy every type of vacation: for couples, backpackers, and families. All in one land, ready to be explored.

3. ART AND CULTURE

Landscapes that have inspired great poets, writers, and artists throughout history. Famous palaces, villas, lanes, and squares. Fishing villages with medieval remnants, hidden among hills and valleys, showcasing ancient crafts and wonders. Here, art and culture blend seamlessly, reflecting an extraordinary past in a captivating mix of contrasts and vistas.

4. Enogastronomy

The aroma of pesto, the fragrance of farinata. The rich taste of olive oil. The comforting flavour of focaccia. The sweet simplicity of canestrelli and amaretti. Here, food is more than sustenance; it’s a sensory experience. Complemented by wines that capture the essence of a land perched above the sea and the authenticity of its producers.

5. UNIVERSITIES

The University of Genoa (UniGe), founded in 1481, is a public university located in Genoa. It has campuses in Genoa, Imperia, Savona, La Spezia, Chiavari, and Pietra Ligure. It collaborates closely with the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) and plans to build a new engineering faculty at the Great Campus science and technology park in Erzelli. The university is organised into schools, which coordinate multiple departments grouped by disciplinary affinity and organisational functionality. There are 22 departments (one of which is inter-school), divided into five schools. In 2013, the university founded the Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of Genoa (ISSUGE), which was transformed in 2016 into the Advanced School of the University of Genoa (IANUA-ISSUGE).

6. RESEARCH AND INNOVATION HUB

The Ligurian ecosystem for research and advanced education is rather intelligent: it is based on the three subject matters of the Smart Specialisation Strategy (Marine Technologies, Health and Life Sciences, Security and Quality of Life) and operates through five Research and Innovation Hubs.  Liguria, a region with a narrow coastline but broad horizons, hosts the Italian Institute of Technology, the University of Genoa, and research and innovation centers such as the Digital Innovation Hub, Start 4.0, Competence Center, and two business incubators: Filse and Why Lab, recognised by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT).  Recently joining these entities is the Ambrosetti Forum, working to provide useful guidance for regional investments in technology.

7. BLUE ECONOMY AND PORTS

Liguria, due to tradition and its geographical location, is the perfect place for projects related to the marine economy, ideal for creating a sustainable economic system through technological innovation. Genoa is the capital of boating: every year, its International Boat Show sets the course. Liguria is a crescent-shaped coastline with numerous tourist harbours, an ideal arrival and departure point for those who live by the sea in winter and in every season. Small harbours equipped with all services provide departure points to discover the hidden gems and enchanting bays of the region.

8. REGENERATION IN CONTACT WITH NATURE

Liguria has a blue sea in front and a green sea behind: in the summer, its beaches and harbours proudly display 83 Blue Flags, symbols of clean and crystal-clear waters. In winter and other seasons, you can dive into its parks and the vast, green inland areas. This heritage belongs to all humanity, like the dry stone walls of the Cinque Terre or the Palazzi dei Rolli in Genoa, recognised and protected by UNESCO.

9. ARTISAN CRAFTSMANSHIP

Skilled hands, ancient crafts, experience and skills passed down through generations. Ligurian craftsmanship is made up of gestures, techniques, tools, and materials that are concentrated in a small village or even an old district. Ceramists, filigree masters, slate carvers, bobbin lace makers, glassmakers, chocolatiers, confectioners, and many more: it is impossible to separate the artisan from their workshop, the workshop from its village, and the village from that precious craftsmanship.

10. IDEAL SETS

Liguria offers a variety of settings ideal for any film, from historical epics with its grand historic villas to modern-day stories set in its towns, cities, and ports. The green hills overlooking the sea provide a perfect backdrop for productions. Every year, Regione Liguria promotes calls for proposals dedicated to the audiovisual sector. Since 2015, more than 6 million euros have been allocated to production companies that have chosen Liguria as their filming location.

Business Calls

The Liguria Region supports and promotes the Ligurian economic system through specific calls for proposals and dedicated initiatives. These calls aim to both support existing activities, strengthening traditional sectors such as trade and quality craftsmanship, and accelerate the development of high-tech and maritime economy sectors.

All active calls for proposals are available on the Liguria Region website.

Liguria International
